I use an Epson Photo printer and am very happy with the results.

Always buy the best available paper (same brand as the printer) and only use the recommended inks.

Save up all your printing for a single session. You can print more images from the same amount of ink this way. Everytime you turn on your printer, it re-inks itself and so wastes ink.

Epson R2400 is probably the best $800 can buy in a consumer inkjet photo printer. Lab quality is very hard to achieve with inkjet printers because the lab uses the same photographic printing process it has for making prints from film for digital images as well, and can therefore resolve lines better than any inkjet printer. I can tell you this, Epson makes the best photo printers for real print making and gets closer to actual lab print quality than any other brand. I went cheap on a canon ipixma and the results showed as much. I hardly ever use that printer, instead I take my prints to costco - it’s cheaper. The cost per print is far cheaper than the cost of buying the $800 Epson printer, maintaining the $50 ink cartridge packs, and buying the paper - and I don’t have to bother with color profiles. And all-in-one printers are useless. Epson has a few different lines check out the R2400 or feel free to browse the rest of their printers.

I have a Cannon i9900 and I really love the quality prints that I get from it. It prints up to 13×19 size prints. I’ve even had other photographers ask me which lab I use to get my prints done! And they’re shocked when I tell them it’s an ink jet print.
