babbles asked:
I’m about to buy a photo copier, but this is the only function I want the machine to do. None of the extras like fax, printer..etc. I’m hoping to hear about copiers that ARE NOT lazer copiers, if there’s such a thing. I’m looking in the $300+/- price range, not unless you really think a $500 copier is worth the extra bucks. Looking for somethig that won’t eat up the toners too. Any thoughts folks? Thanks!

Actually I don’t know diddly about non-laser copiers. How ever I do know a lot about printers and scanners. My preference here is a color scanner connected to a PC that is connected to a networked HP LaserJet 4550n. This setup allows you to do full color copying and printing. Used 4550n’s can be had on eBay for around $100.00 but the shipping is steep as they weigh in around 150 lbs. A good scanner is the HP ScanJet which is quick and clean. The paper capacity of a standard 4550n is around 100 sheets, but adapter trays can be bought to add another 200 or more. The toner cartridges can be bought new on eBay as well, where a full set of four colors runs around $175.00. Why buy a stand-alone copier rather than a printer that all can use over the network. This saves a ton on those inkjet cartridges. Since I set mine up, I have gotten rid of all other printers, all-in-ones, and even my copier. These printers are trully hard to kill, and can be maintenanced by any copy center repairman. The cost of laserjet versus any others in unbeatable. For a true comparison, my site below under Computer Talk has a section devoted just to printers. On the other hand, if I had to purchase another copier, it would definitely be a Zerox. Hope this helps
